Jag Virk Toronto Criminal law Procedures

Toronto Criminal Lawyer ProceduresWe often attend court for our clients on what is called a designation, which allows us to attend court in your absence, so that you do not need to miss work or school, or anything else that you may be busy with. After being charged there are many court dates and things that happen usually, before your matter is resolved or a trial date is set. If you do not have a lawyer, you would be required to attend these dates on your own, often missing work or school.

Even if you do have a lawyer, some Criminal Lawyers in Toronto may still make you attend Court with a letter to duty Counsel. If its important for you not to miss work, and if you do not want to attend preliminary court dates before trial, then its important to make that clear to your lawyer in the beginning. With us, that is not a problem, as we usually attend all dates for you, but of course you would have to attend the trial date, or a plea date.

If it is your first time being in trouble, you are what is called a First Time Offender. In these cases, depending on the charge, we often are able to get your charges withdrawn through a diversion program. This can usually be done if your charge is less serious.
If you are not eligible for a diversion program, we may be able to convince the Judge to grant you a discharge so that you do not obtain a criminal record.

If your charges have to be deal with through a jail sentence, we often are successful in getting you a conditional sentence, which is a form of house arrest, where you do your jail at home.
Give us a call today for a free initial consultation so we can give you proper legal advice and let you know what it is that we may be able to do for you.
